It has been five years since Apple launched the Watch and it hasn’t really looked back since then. Apple has been a dominant player in smartwatch segment and the dominance it seems is only growing. As per Research Report by Strategic Analytics,Apple has a 45% market share, its higher ever -in the smartphone market.The report estimates Apple shipped nearly 31 million units in 2019, a 36 percent jump over last year.While Apple doesn’t break out specific Apple Watch unit sales in its quarterly earnings, Strategy Analytics gathers data from retail partners and other vendors to arrive at its sales estimates. “Analog wristwatches remain popular among older consumers, but younger buyers are tipping toward smartwatches and computerized wristwear,” writes Neil Mawston, executive director at Strategy Analytics.
If Strategy Analytics’ figures are accurate, Apple Watch shipments are up 51 percent compared to the third quarter of last year.
Apple shipped 6.8 million smartwatches worldwide in Q3 2019, rising an above-average 51 percent from 4.5 million in Q3 2018. Apple Watch remains a long way ahead of the chasing pack and its global smartwatch marketshare has grown from 45 percent to 48 percent in the past year. Apple Watch continues to fend off strong competition from hungry rivals like Fitbit and Samsung. Apple Watch owns half the worldwide smartwatch market and remains the clear industry leader.
According to the report, the global smartwatch market grew considerably, with shipments reaching 14 million units in total, up 42 percent year on year. Notably, Apple Watch growth outpaced overall market growth, indicating that Apple is eating an increasingly bigger slice of the burgeoning wearables sector.
Apple sold more than 22 million units of the Apple Watch last year.While Apple does not break out Apple Watch sales in its earnings reports, but the Apple Watch has been a major growth driver in recent years.
The Watch app is built into the iPhone’s operating system, and that gives the Apple Watch a real leg up on the competition for iOS users. Specifically, you’re able to reply to messages, install apps directly on the watch, make mobile payments with Apple Pay, place and receive phone calls, and use Siri, all from your wrist.
It’s also the first Apple Watch with an always-on display, which makes it a much more utilitarian timepiece. It is a feature we feared might make the Series 5’s battery life take a hit, but in our testing, we found battery life to still be more than enough to get through a full day of use off a full charge.
The upgrades Apple made to Series 5 came without their having to add bulk to the Apple Watch or change up the familiar, sleek design. The base aluminum offering still comes in silver, space gray or gold. Apple also offers the Series 5 in stainless steel, titanium and even ceramic cases. All previous bands will work with the Series 5 as well.
